I couldn't look at it any longer. It is an eyesore. The plan is to build a patio and a pergola on the same spot. For me discarding the materials wasn't an option, I planned to use all somewhere else. It is pressure treated lumber and lasts for a long time.
Interlocking stones were ordered and delivered to my property, and I started to remove the deck, the patio stones, and prepare the grounds for the patio. Six inches of well compacted stone dust, or screening some may know this, was laid onto landscape fabric, and watered in for settling, making sure of proper grading away from the house.
The project lasted seven days, doing it all myself and gave us a wonderful, lasting result to enjoy for many years to come.
And this is how it turned out.
Modest but satisfying. The footprint of the patio didn't much change, by only a couple of square feet, but it made a lot of difference.
This happened a couple of years ago, the cedar wood turned grey, but it is the look I wanted to achieve. If you want to keep it from loosing the color, you have to use wood preservatives.
Let me know if you liked the transformation, or have any additional questions.
